From handmade bricks to modern precision-engineered options, we have a solution to match your project’s specifications.

Types of bricks

Handmade

Handmade bricks are made by skilled craftsmen. The process involves throwing a ‘clot’ of clay into a sanded mould. This results in a characterful, unique product with a tighter texture than machine-made equivalents. The hands-on approach ensures that every brick carries a distinct character, making your project truly one-of-a-kind. Each brick tells a story of dedication, precision and timeless tradition.

At Manchester Brick Specialists, our bricks are not just building materials but pieces of art, skilfully crafted to elevate your projects to new heights. Add a touch of elegance to your project that withstands the test of time.

Stock

Stock bricks can be either moulded or pressed. Moulded stock bricks are compressed and then turned in the mould. This allows the brick to easily fall out to be dried and ready to enter the kiln.

Pressed stock bricks involves the use of a specialised press. It’s this method of production that gives moulded brick its natural appearance. This results in bricks which exude natural beauty and timeless charm.

Waterstruck

Waterstruck bricks provide a unique style and offering when compared to other bricks in our range. In their production, they begin in the same way as most of our bricks, with the soft, mud clay being moulded into shape.

What makes them different is how the mould is made wet as a way of stopping sticking. Then, water is splashed heavily across the tops of the moulds. As you can tell, this process is where they get their name. This gives the bricks a clean smooth finish, however the presence of natural imperfections provides them with character and expressiveness that will stand out in your finished project.

Wirecut

Step into a realm of design possibilities with Manchester Brick Specialists’ collection of Wirecut bricks. Crafted through an innovative process, these bricks offer a unique and versatile solution for your architectural needs.  Clay is forced through an extruder and compressed into a long rectangular shape, the desired brick module is cut using a die and individual bricks cut by a wire. Various textures can be added to give character. The result is a crisp, square, modular brick.

The distinctive feature of Wirecut bricks lies in the intricate textures that can be effortlessly incorporated, adding character and depth to your structures. From sleek and modern to rustic and weathered, the possibilities are as diverse as your imagination. The result is a collection of bricks that seamlessly blend creativity with precision, offering a crisp, square, and modular aesthetic.

These bricks are not merely construction materials; they are the building blocks of your architectural vision. Choose Wirecut bricks for a harmonious blend of precision, versatility and aesthetic excellence, and watch your projects come to life with a crisp and modular brilliance.

Glazed

Buildings built with Glazed bricks leave a lasting impression on everyone who sees them. Some of the most recognisable Manchester pubs, such as the Peveril Of The Peak, The Freemount, and Castle Hotel, all became iconic, thanks in part to their unique glazed appearance.

Our range of glazed bricks comes from a variety of creative manufacturers, meaning we have hand-picked the industry’s best products and made them available all in one place.

A special ceramic glaze is applied to the brick faces before it’s fired, giving the final product a slick, glossy surface. Like our wirecut bricks, our glazed bricks’ smooth, precise edges make them the perfect choice for contemporary and traditional designs, while also offering vibrant and creative aesthetic appeal found nowhere else.

Creative architecture is one of the things that makes Manchester so special. By choosing glazed bricks for your next project, you can create something truly iconic that will last for generations to come.

Blocks

The building blocks of Manchester can come in many different shapes, sizes, and materials. Our range of Aircrete blocks might look different to the bricks we usually sell, but they are just as important when building something impressive.

Aircrete is a type of aerated concrete, meaning it has been specially treated to be lighter than traditional concrete blocks. This streamlines the construction process while also improving the fire resistance of your projects. If you’re interested in building with MBS Facades, Aircrete can also provide the perfect foundation for rainscreen cladding and facade systems.

In addition, they are strong, load-bearing blocks, perfect for structural use, while also offering excellent acoustic insulation.

Available in a range of sizes, aircrete blocks lay the foundation for truly special projects.
